              4 ZONES

~~

~~Steve just installed the "latest and greatest" fuel saving furnace and air conditioner. I'm expecting to see some savings in both natural gas and electricity. Additionally, a year or so ago, he zoned our house! We had dramatically different temperatures upstairs than we had downstairs. We would freeze either upstairs and burn up down or vice versa. Steve zoned the house and now we have the same temperature everywhere, up and down. I would recommend him, the zoning of the house, and the highest efficiency furnace/air conditioner you can afford!

Installed zoning system in two story home with an addition in the back of the house. This addition has three exterior walls, the fourth is the unheated garage. Additionally, it has a crawl space underneath with very little insulation and an uninsulated flat roof. Oh, and the ductwork travels from the basement to the great outdoors, and then turns and goes back into the addition. Member Comments: Short Answer: Wonderful. Look no further, hire Steve. Long Answer: The addition was a frozen iceberg on the back of our home. During winter, we moved the tv out of that room and closed the door. We have had other providers tell us to get a second furnace, a heated ceiling fan, baseboard electric heat, or a fireplace. Steve from Home Comfort Systems looked at our addition and ductwork and said that we didn't need a second furnace; and that we could use the existing ductwork for zoned heating. After it was installed, he called to check on how the system was doing, and spent an additional day working on it, as we also had problems with ductwork in the basement. Now we can sit in the back room without our winter jackets! Steve and his workers are honest and knowledgable, and I recommend them without reservation.

HALF OF OUR HOUSE WAS NOT USABLE DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE FLUXUATIONS. HOME COMFORT RECOMMENDED THE HONEYWELL ZONE SYSTEM WHICH ADDED 3 ADDITIONAL WIRELESS THERMOSTATS. OUR HOUSE IS NOW COMFORTABLE IN EVERY ROOM. WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT.

NAPERVILLE, IL 60564 . Home Comfort Systems had repaired our A/C unit once before as well as our furnace twice. This time the compressor had died and it was time to replace the unit. I was thinking a more expensive one but the owner, Steve, recommended a less expensive model since the extra efficiency gets wasted this far north. i.e. a very high seer unit is worth it in Florida, not so much in Chicagoland. It was refreshing not to get steered to a more expensive unit. Steve also recommended the zoning system (~3500). I had seen it on the Home Comfort System website and was intrigued. Our basement is usually too cold whereas the upstairs is usually too warm. The two story entrance foyer doesn't help. They installed a 4 zone system which is pretty ingenious. It uses the current ducting and controls airflow via inflatable baffles (or something). Now we can set different temperatures for the basement, first floor, master bedroom, and other 3 bedrooms. It is pretty nice because now the upstairs and first floor can be at the same temperature. He gives a 30 day guarantee where he'll take the system out if you decide you don't want it (at least that is my understanding) but we'll be keeping ours. Just having the ability not to "waste" A/C into the basement makes it worth it. They also ended up removing the 2 registers that the basement had and replacing them with 5 that were more evenly spread. Doubt they'll see much use in the summer but they will make the basement much more livable in the winter by more evenly distributing the heating. That change was sort of a bonus that I wasn't expecting. I wholeheartedly recommend Steve and his company for any a/c or heating needs.

NAPERVILLE, IL 60565 Description Of Work: Installed a 3-zone honeywell system. Member Comments: I found these guys through Angie's list after talking to some insulation companies regarding our heating issue on the second floor. Two of the rooms stayed cold all the time. I thought it was an insulation problem, so I first called insulation companies and guess what? Their solution was to put in more insulation. That was not what I really needed, eventhough I did end up putting in more insulation as well. The real problem for a larger house is improper temperature control. So, I called home comfort systems and Steve came and asked me all the right questions and told me that I need a zoning system for my house. He was absolutely correct. They installed a 3-zone system, it was not cheap (around $3500). However, it solved our problem completely. All of our rooms are usable now and comfortable. Thanks steve and team for a great job. Also, a few weeks later I had a problem with my furnace (separate issue), I called these guys, they helped me diagnose the problem over the phone and helped me fix it myself. Great company, great people. I highly recommend them without hesitation.

Orland Park, IL 60462 Category: Heating & A/C Description Of Work: I had a furnace and a "heating zone system" installed by this company. I called Home Comfort Systems for a second opinion after being advised by another company that my furnace was not operating safely, and my family was in imminent danger of carbon monoxide poisoning unless I replaced a very expensive part (heat exchange unit @ $1,500) immediately. After meeting with Steve of Home Comfort Systems I decided to replace an 18 year old furnace and also purchase an additional component (Zoning system) to make my home more energy efficient. Details follow.. I contacted this company after a service man from another company (ARS) made his annual check on my furnace and stated that my 18 year old furnace was in desperate need of repair--the heat exchange unit "appeared" to be damaged. I was advised by that service that I needed to have a $1,500 part replaced immediately, and "the law required that he turn off my furnace due to this potential danger until I had the part replaced. However, if I authorized him, he could have the work done that day." I stated that I needed a second opinion on this expensive part since my furnace had been operating just fine prior to his inspection. He turned off the furnace and left after having me sign a waiver. It was late at night, and it was freezing, so I turned the furnace back on. I was in a panic and immediately referred to Angie's List. After checking reviews I called Home Comfort System and Steve came out the next day. He checked the furnace and stated that I was not in any immediate danger and had time to consider my options. He would recommend replacing the heat exchange unit eventually, but suggested that due to the age of the furnace, if I could afford to do so, I should consider replacing the entire furnace. After checking my home and discussing heating issues I had been having over the last twenty years--excessive heat at night in the 2nd floor rooms--he also recommended a heating zone system that could resolve this problem (often found in homes over 25 years old). I opted to have the furnace replaced and "test" the heating zone system. He said he would install the latter (heating zone system) but would not require that I pay for it (for 30 days) to make certain that I was convinced that this extra component was worth the costly investment. I was sold on this additional feature after the first night. It has made all the difference in the world throughout my house. I cannot believe the difference in comfort levels. I know that this feature will eventually pay for itself. Steve and his team of professionals did an outstanding non-stop job and completed all the necessary work within a ten hour period. I would not hesitate to recommend this company, and alread have. They know their business, worked efficiently, and cleaned up the entire area before they left. I am so grateful to Angie's List for this referral. It is the first time I used this website and won't be the last.

GENEVA, IL 60134 Description Of Work: Added a third zone, including ducts, to our heating and cooling system Member Comments: Steve and his crew exceeded expectations on a tough project. We asked them to change our system to provide better heating in our finished basement. They created a third zone for the basement and had to put dedicated ducts into the finished part of that area. Steve warned us that several pretty good size holes had to be made in the drywall ceiling to work the flexible ducts through to the length of the room. I anticipated a huge mess, but we were willing to go through that to make the basement more usable in the colder months. To our surprise, the guys were able to get the job done with only two holes being cut out and they were much smaller than I expected. Because this was a challenging project, they had to return a number of times work out some kinks, and they did without hesitation. Steve will tell you that his objective is 100% customer satisfaction - he's not just talking, he's committed to it. Thanks for the warm basement, Steve! NAPERVILLE, IL 60564 I had them come out to check my air conditioner which had stopped cooling. They found that the coil was leaking refrigerant, and gave me two options, fix the leaks they found in the coil or replace the coil with a new one. As they could only guarantee the leaks they fixed, if any others appeared it would cost me the same again. So we just decided to replace the entire coil. When they were done the installers gave me the extra valve that came with the unit, should I one day need to replace the outside unit with one that used a different coolant. When talking to Steve about our options regarding how best to fix the air conditioner we mentioned that it pretty much runs day and night. He mentioned that really for a house our size there should have been two air conditioners and furnaces. He then suggested a zoned duct system that lets you control cooling and heating to various rooms in the house with a remote. The deal was try it for two weeks and if you like it buy it otherwise they would just remove the system and put things back the way they were. So we tried it and it worked as promised, with the air conditioner running less, so we kept it. All in all I feel Steve (who is also the owner) is an honest bussinessman and his crew were, punctual, left the work area clean, and explained how to operate the zone system completely

Naperville, IL 60565 Description Of Work: Replaced our 23 year old HVAC system that was originally installed when the home was built. Naperville, IL 61108 Description Of Work: Air Conditioning: Replace non-functioning 2 zone air conditioning system with wireless 4 zone system including ductwork revisions Member Comments: I recently joined Angie's List seeking a credible and useful resource to locate quality service providers among the sea of seemingly indistinguishable companies across the internet. I was no longer willing to rely solely on generic search engines or other forums online to differentiate the good from the bad. My first attempt in using Angie's service occured here with my search for a local company to repair or replace my zone cooling system in my relatively new home (< 5yrs old). I was experiencing tremendous swings in temperature upstairs vs downstairs with my A/C essentially running non-stop and never getting the master bedroom upstairs to approach a comfortable cool temp while the downstairs was an icebox. I had tried another company before and the adjustments to vents and replacement of dampers provided no noticeable change while costing me plenty. So I was very motivated to find a service provider with experience who could actually diagnose the problem and not give me a bunch of generic factors which "could be contributing to the problem". After finding Home Comfort Systems on Angie, I immediately was able to schedule a service call. The technician was prompt and very courteous (actually called me at work to explain my options). I asked for a bid with different options and received it promptly. I was impressed that both the technician and later the owner Steve, separately recommended that I not opt for certain pricey air cleaner features as in my situation I would not benefit. They explained exactly why and gave me several helpful recommendations. While the pricing of the zoning system was on the higher end, I did not feel like it was marked up ridiculously. Rather, I was choosing a very well built product recommended by an experienced and honest business. The rezoning was ultimately almost a full day's work and the technician was courteous and patient with my questions. Steve stopped by not once but twice to check on things and answered numerous questions of mine pertaining to not only the system, but also to provide me with a better understanding of the flow of air in my house and how it could be optimized. I also recall his saying that this system would completely change my air quality. Having struggled with other "solutions" in the past, I took the prediction with a grain of salt. By early evening, my entire house was transformed into perfectly balanced air. My bedroom which I had sweltered in for years in the summers was the coldest room in the house. And the downstairs remained normal with no air running. The impressive part of this service was that these guys took the time to not just completely trace the current ductwork patterns, but also then to thoughtfully redesign the layout and install several damper switches and junctions to completely change the flow. That for me is the difference between an A/C repair service and a top quality A/C repair business. That was the intangible part of the service that we all search for in a business: the approach to their work as if it was their own house - the same thoughtfulness and care that sadly is not routinely provided to paying customers, but only to our friends and family. That evening, every person that was in the house made a specific comment about how incredible and fast the change had happened and specifically that the air felt so much lighter and cleaner. I couldn't have been happier. If you have struggled with certain parts of your home experiencing extreme tempertures and you are assuming the only solution is a new bigger air conditioner or even a second one, I encourage you to contact Steve and try this system first. I appreciate the fact that Home Comfort Systems lived up to the high rating they hold on Angies. I couldn't have found a better fit for my needs. From reading previous comments on HCS, I was well informed as to the business I wouuld be dealing with. I felt that this company provided premiums in the quality of their service, reliability and their honesty and I was willing to pay market prices for that piece of mind. In the end, my time wasn't wasted, my problem was fixed, and my house is a new place. Do not hesitate to use Home Comfort System for your needs.

NAPERVILLE, IL 60563 Category: Heating & A/C Services Performed: Yes * Member Comments: Steve, the owner of the company, came to our house to give us an estimate for replacing our furnace and possibly air conditioner. It is rare to deal directly with the owner of a company so I already was feeling good about the appointment. Immediately, Steve impressed us with his knowledge of heating/air conditioning issues and told us he could indeed install a high effeciencly furnace, even though another company, Four Seasons, had previously told us we could not get such a furnace because of venting issue in our basement. When I asked Steve about how could Four Season say it was not possible and you say you can do it no problem, he explained that it would take some extra work and that they would probably have to move an existing piece of ductwork. He guessed that the salesman from Four Seasons probably was just less experienced than himself and couldn't see how the high effeciency furnace could be installed. Needless to say we were very pleased with this because we really wanted the high effeciency furnace. Steve also looked at our air conditioner and since it was only about 5-6 years old recommended that we not replace it. To me this is a sign of integrity, because Steve was not trying to sell us something we didn't necessarily need at the time. Steve also asked us if we had any trouble keeping certain rooms warm enought and/or cool enough. We said yes, our upstairs bedrooms our often too hot in the summer and our large family is often too hot in summer and too cold in winter. We added the large family room on to the back of our house, which faces east and has 3 exterior walls. We get lots of morning sun which makes this room, with a vaulted ceiling very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Steve asked us if we ever heard of zoning, which we had not. He explained that this system was expensive (about $3,000), but that he guaranteed it would solve our problems. The zoning system gives you multiple thermostates that can be placed in different rooms that control the furnace/ac. Dampers or inflatable blatters are installed in all the ductwork so that heating vents can be closed off and/or opened as needed. With the multiple thermostats this allows certain rooms to receive more heat or cool air as needed. The system sounded perfect for us and we were so happy that Steve recognized that we might have such an issue. Steve explained to us how well his company has been rated by Angie's List and other respected groups, and then told us something that is truly hard to believe. He said he would not asked for any kind of payment for his services until after the job was complete and we had a couple of weeks to experience the new system. And this is exactly what happened. Steve's work crew came and worked on installing the new furnace and zoning system over 2 days. Steve, the owner, came by both days to make sure everything was going well. His installers were extremely courteous and professional. They stayed and answered my questions for over 15 minutes after working all day. It got very hot (95 degrees plus) a few days after the system was installed so we had a good test of how it worked. We felt like there was too much conditioned air going to our kitchen and basement so Steve's guys cam back and tweeked the system to satisfy our needs. We didn't pay Steve anything until 2 weeks after the system was installed and we were 100% satisfied. I am still in shock and awe that a company operates this way in today's day and age. Also, for this kind of service, you would expect to pay more money, but his prices are as competitve as anyone's. If you are considering anything to do with heating/air conditioning or hot water heaters, you would be a fool not to call Steve at Home Comfort Systems. Category: Heating & A/C .

Member Comments: We have been having severe problems with temperature differential in different parts of our house since we bought it 23 years ago. The master bedroom (which sits mostly over a garage and has a vaulted ceiling) was a major trouble spot. Always too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. We found out about Home Comfort Systems by talking to them at a home show at College of DuPage. We got some literature and a DVD from them at the show and called for an estimate a few days later. Steve, the owner, came out, listened to me explain the situation, looked over the ventilation system and furnace and told me he could install a 3 zone system (master bedroom, other 2nd floor, lower level) that would solve our problem. The price did not seem out of line for the work that was being done. He gave us an estimate which we accepted the next day and his crew or two was out two days later. Their professionalism was excellent. They laid drop cloths from the front door all the way down the stains to the basement. They were on time and (except for a short, well-deserved break) worked continuously and diligently until they finished about 5 hours later. Steve went over the system with me and answered numerous annoying questions of mine happily. Here's the kicker: He didn't want to be paid on the completion of the job! He wanted us to use it for a couple of weeks first! I have NEVER have a contractor come in and not expect to be paid immediately upon completion. We noticed the difference almost immediately. All of a sudden we could keep the entire house at (essentially) the same temperature - even our pesky master bedroom. The system worked exactly as Steve said it would. There was only one annoying feature that I could not figure out initially. It turned out that the thermostats have an adaptive learning feature that causes them to call for heat early so that the temperature you want will be reached by the time you enter in the thermostat. I really just want the system to change the thermostat temperature setting at the times I want it to. I made a call to Steve, and he came out a couple of hours later to show me how to disable that feature. We are so pleased with his service, that we are now going to use them for our regular furnace and A/C tuneups. We also need our water heater replaced soon and they will be getting that business as well. To say that we're completely satisfied with the sales, installation and service is an understatement. A+!

I have an old 2 story home that didn't have air and I had been told by others it wouldn't be very good. Steve talked to me about the zone system he installs and said that I wouldn't pay anything until I was happy. It took two days to install and even though they found a problem with my existing duct work they just fixed the problem. Steve explained how to run the zone system and left that day not ever asking for payment. Steve called me the next day to see if things were going alright. I couldn't be more happy with what I received and the cost was great. You can bet he got paid. I would recomend them to anyone (and I already have)!

NAPERVILLE, IL 60540 Description Of Work: Installed new A/C and 4 zones for heating and A/C. Work was done professionally, on time, with quality (at least as far as I can tell). At the end I told Steve that our basement is cleaner now than when they started. They did a really good job of cleaning up after themselves. We now have a master control and 4 wireless controls for the 4 zones all of which allow separate time of day and day of week operation. Member Comments: Steve came to estimate the job and suggested the zoning system as well as a new A/C - which my husband and I had not known was a possibility. The workers were here a day and a half to do the work and then Steve came by to show us how to operate the system. So far, we love it! For the first time we can cool our upstairs bedroom to a temperature that we can sleep comfortably at without overcooling the entire house. Wonderful! I think (will be able to tell after a year) that it will also save us a lot of money in addition to keeping us comfortable. Report Date: November 11, 2009

February 12, 2009 BURR RIDGE, IL 60527 We were told in October by our furnace service company that cracks in our 23 year old heat exchanger put our old furnace at risk of carbon monoxide leakage. I found good recommendations for Home Comfort Systems on Angie's List. When I called for an estimate the office immediately contacted Steve, who returned my call within the hour. This was on a Saturday, he came on Sunday to discuss our needs with my husband and myself. He spent a couple of hours looking over our system and discussing our options. He was very thorough and very professional. Another company had suggested that we could bypass the installation of a chimney liner (usually required for high efficiency furnaces). Steve explained very convincingly why we might want to install the liner, but did not try to bad-mouth the other company. He seemed to have a good command of the technical issues, in other words, was not just a salesman. My husband, being an engineer, was impressed with this aspect of his proposal. When we described our many years of uneven heating and cooling in our 3-story home, he recommended the Honeywell zoning system, which was not something that we had originally considered. His offer, I'll install it. You don't have to pay me for it for 30 days. If you're not satisfied, I'll remove it. Hard to beat that. He also offered us a discount on both the furnace and the zoning system if we were willing to do the installation over the Christmas/New Year's holiday period. He and his workers showed up promptly, as scheduled, completed the work in a timely fashion and completely cleaned up after themselves. The zoning system turned out to be more complex than anticipated, requiring significant extra duct work to accommodate the space limitations of our dropped ceiling in the basement. Although these accommodations probably added 6-8 hours of work for Steve, at no time did he suggest that there should be extra charges, nor did he alter his guarantee that he would remove it if we weren't satisfied. In the first few days after installation I was having some difficulty maintaining the desired temperature in the house. (This was during our sub-zero January period.) Steve came back immediately after my call, made an adjustment to the electronic settings that had been recommended by Honeywell and fixed the problem. We are delighted with the zoning system. For the first time in 23 years we have a basement that is inhabitable without 3 extra layers of clothing! We are able to program 4 zones in our home to reflect time-specific needs and are looking forward to having this control during the summer months, when our upstairs bedrooms have typically been very difficult to cool without freezing out the rest of the house. Steve was a pleasure to work with, as were his helpers and I would recommend him highly.

Report Date: December 02, 2008 Downers Grove, IL 60516 Description Of Work: ew Honeywell zoning system (which required duct work due to the pre-existing setup) to create 4 zones in the home, new A/C unit, new variable speed furnace with humidifier, new 75-gallon hot water heater. Member Comments: This project couldn't have gone better. Steve and his crew did a fantastic job. Steve has been amazingly responsive and patient with all my questions. We moved into a 4BR house that had one furnace serving the basement and two other floors. The thermostat was on the 1st floor, so when it was 71 on that floor it was about 77 upstairs and 67 in the basement. We wanted a zoned system so that temperatures in the house would be even. Also, both the furnace and hot water heater were in the middle of the basement and we wanted the new units installed against the side of the house in order to free up space in the basement. The existing duct work was a maze and required a lot of new connection and reconnection to set up the zoning system. They did an absolutely amazing job getting it set up. The whole house now is comfortable and has even temperatures. I wasn't sure we'd be able to get the results we wanted given the duct setup of the existing system, but Steve assured me we could and he delivered beyond my expectations. My experience with Home Comfort Systems has been terrific. They really placed importance on good communication and service, doing the job right and as promised.

Report Date: September 17, 2008 BOLINGBROOK, IL 60440 Description Of Work: They removed our old furnace and installed a new high-efficiency furnace with zone control (4 zones). They changed out the A/C coil and installed a whole-house humidifier. Two men took almost two full days to complete the job. Member Comments: Very smooth. Steve's visit to give us product and installation options was thorough but low-pressure. The work was scheduled for the same week, and went as promised with very little disruption to us. They cleaned up very well. On a job this size there will always be a punch list, but Steve personally responded to it within 24 hours. He expected $0 in payment until we were 100% satisfied. ~

Steve and his workers are honest and knowledgable, and I recommend them without reservation

We have been having severe problems with temperature differential in different parts of our house since we bought it 23 years ago. A+!

Steve talked to me about the zone system he installs and said that I wouldn't pay anything until I was happy. Member Comments: I had a good experience working with Home Comfort Systems. They were punctual and they took the time to clean up after themselves. I would definitely use them again in the future. Transcribed from a telephone interview Report Date: February 12, 2009 BURR RIDGE, IL 60527 We were told in October by our furnace service company that cracks in our 23 year old heat exchanger put our old furnace at risk of carbon monoxide leakage.
